Your exposed aggregate questions answered

Exposed aggregate is concrete with a different blend of coloured stone and various coloured types of cement.  A retardant is sprayed on the surface once it has been poured and levelled, then washed off to expose the feature.

Exposed aggregate is perfect for driveways, pathways, alfresco and bbq areas. It is often a preferred finish around pools as the textured aggregate can reduce the risk of slipping in wet areas.

Traditional concrete is typically smoothed out after it is poured rather than aggregate concrete, which is designed to have a more textured finish. The textured finish is achieved by removing the first 5mm of non cured cement from the top by washing away the surface to expose the stone bedded into the concrete mix.

It really depends on the aggregate chosen. It also depends on how accessible the project site is. As such, prices can range between $100 per square metre up to $200 per square metre. Rather than estimate how much your exposed aggregate will cost, we encourage you to discuss your complete design and budget first. We will give you honest advice on how much it is likely to cost as well as some budget management tips on achieving your dream landscape.
